Jaguar S-Type

Jaguar has used the S-Type nameplate for two distinct models. The first, produced from 1963 to 1968, was a more refined version of the popular Mark 2 saloon, adding the sophisticated independent rear suspension from the larger Mark X. Decades later, the name was revived for the retro-styled X200 executive car built from 1999 to 2007, which shared its DEW98 platform with the Lincoln LS.

The classic S-Type appeals to collectors who appreciate its balance of Mark 2 styling and superior ride comfort, making it a capable classic touring car. For the modern iteration, the supercharged S-Type R is the most desirable. With a 400 hp 4.2L V8 and sport-tuned suspension, it offered serious performance to challenge its German rivals. Today, the S-Type R represents a performance bargain with potential for future appreciation.

The market for all S-Types is broad, with an average price of just over $10,000. The low end of the market is populated by neglected modern examples, while the top is reserved for perfectly restored 1960s cars and pristine, low-mileage S-Type R models. It's an accessible entry point for either classic or modern Jaguar ownership.
