Lexus GS

The Lexus GS was introduced in 1993 as a Japanese take on the German executive sport sedan, with the first generation styled by Italdesign. It was the second generation, launched for 1998, that truly defined the model with its quad-taillight design and robust 2JZ-GE and 1UZ-FE V8 engines, making it a favorite in tuner culture. Later generations refined the formula, culminating in the track-capable GS F, which featured a high-revving 5.0L V8 before the model line was discontinued in 2020.

Collector interest is split between two main groups. Tuners and 90s enthusiasts seek out clean second-generation (S160) models, particularly the V8-powered GS 400 and GS 430, for their reliability and modification potential. Modern performance enthusiasts prize the 2016-2020 GS F as the last naturally aspirated V8 sport sedan from Lexus, securing its future classic status. These cars offer a unique combination of Lexus quality with genuine rear-wheel-drive performance.

The market for the GS is very broad, with an average sale price of $20,241 reflecting the large number of third and fourth-generation daily drivers trading hands. At the top end, immaculate GS F examples can sell for over $70,000, while early project cars can be found for just a few hundred dollars. The second-generation cars currently represent a significant value, but prices are firming up for well-maintained examples.
