The Maserati Mistral, produced from 1963 to 1970, marked the end of an era for the company. It was the last model to feature Maserati's celebrated twin-spark, dual overhead cam straight-six engine, a direct descendant of the powerplant used in the 250F Grand Prix car. Designed by Pietro Frua, its fastback body was a departure from the previous 3500 GT and was available as both a coupe and a very rare spyder, with most bodies constructed from aluminum.
Collectors are drawn to the Mistral for its combination of race-bred engineering and elegant grand touring design. With 3.5, 3.7, and 4.0-liter engine options, the 4.0-liter cars are the most sought-after for their increased power and torque.
