Maserati Shamal

The Maserati Shamal was the brand's flagship coupe from 1990 to 1996, capping the long-running Biturbo family of cars. Marcello Gandini, famous for the Lamborghini Countach and Diablo, penned the aggressive bodywork. His signature is visible in the slanted rear wheel arch, a feature designed to visually shorten the car's wheelbase. Just 369 Shamals were built, each powered by a new 3.2-liter, 32-valve twin-turbo V8 producing 326 horsepower.

Collectors prize the Shamal for its rarity, brutal performance, and direct connection to Gandini. It represents the final, most extreme expression of Maserati's independent Biturbo era before the company's acquisition by Fiat and subsequent oversight by Ferrari. It's a challenging car to own, but the experience is unique among 1990s exotics, blending Italian luxury with raw, turbocharged power.

The market for the Shamal is thin due to its low production numbers, with few examples trading hands publicly. Prices are heavily dependent on condition, service history, and mileage.
