Mazda Cosmo

The Mazda Cosmo is a landmark car, primarily known for introducing the Wankel rotary engine to the world. The first series, the L10A/L10B produced from 1967-1972, is the most collectible. These were practically hand-built halo cars with a futuristic design inspired by the jet age. With only around 1,176 ever made, their rarity and historical significance are major draws for collectors.

Later generations evolved into larger, more luxurious grand touring coupes. The final generation, the Eunos Cosmo (1990-1996), became a technological showcase. It's famous for featuring the world's first production twin-turbo, triple-rotor engine, the 20B-REW. This model attracts a different type of collector, one focused on JDM icons and advanced engineering from the Japanese bubble era.

The market reflects the vast differences between generations. Early, first-generation cars command six-figure prices for top examples, making them the blue-chip investment. Later models, including the technologically dense Eunos Cosmo, are far more affordable. The average sale price of $42,264 is heavily skewed by this mix of high-value classic and affordable modern classic sales.
