When BMW rebooted the Mini for the 21st century, it created an instant hit. The first generation, particularly the supercharged R53 Cooper S (2002-2006), quickly became an enthusiast favorite for its sharp handling and distinct character. The brand has since expanded into multiple body styles and generations, but the core appeal of a premium, fun-to-drive small car remains.

Collectors focus on limited-production models and early performance variants. The John Cooper Works GP models from all three generations are the most desirable, representing the pinnacle of performance for each era. Low-mileage, well-maintained examples of the R53 Cooper S are also gaining traction as modern classics due to their raw, supercharged driving experience, which was replaced by a turbocharger in later models.

The market for modern Minis is broad, with over 1,000 recent sales reflecting an average price of about $14,500. This number is skewed by the huge volume of standard models used as daily drivers. Collector-grade examples, especially the GP1 and GP2, trade for significantly more, while project cars can be found for just a few hundred dollars.

Prices range from as low as $100 for project cars to nearly $59,000 for top-spec collector models.
