Renault 5 Turbo 2

The Renault 5 Turbo 2 was a cost-conscious follow-up to the original Turbo 1 homologation special. To save money, Renault replaced the Turbo 1's custom aluminum roof, doors, and hatch with steel parts from the standard R5. It also swapped the bespoke Bertone interior for the dashboard and seats from the R5 Alpine, making it slightly heavier but mechanically identical to its predecessor with its mid-mounted, 1.4-liter turbocharged engine producing 158 hp.

As an icon of the Group B rally era, the Turbo 2 is a dream car for many 80s enthusiasts. Its cartoonishly wide fenders and mid-engine layout create a visual and driving experience unlike any other hot hatch. It's a challenging car to drive fast, but its analog nature and explosive power delivery are a huge part of its appeal. With only 3,167 built, its rarity helps secure its place as a top-tier collectible.

It's more common than the ultra-rare Turbo 1, making it the more attainable version, but finding excellent, original examples is still difficult. Well-documented cars with a clear history command a premium, while projects or heavily modified cars trade for significantly less.
