The Silver Cloud II replaced the original in 1959, bringing with it the most significant change of the model's run: a new engine. The long-serving inline-6 was retired in favor of a 6.2-liter all-aluminum V8. This L-series engine provided a welcome increase in power and torque, making the large saloon a much more capable performer on modern roads.

Collectors value the Silver Cloud II as it blends the timeless styling of the first series with the improved V8 performance. While the vast majority of the 2,417 cars built were standard steel saloons, a small number were configured as long-wheelbase models or sent to coachbuilders like H. J. Mulliner Park Ward for rare drophead and fixed-head coupe bodies. These coachbuilt cars are the most sought-after variants today.
