Toyota Corolla 9th Gen

The 9th generation Corolla, sold in North America from 2003 to 2008, was a major evolution for Toyota's compact sedan. It offered a larger, more refined package than its predecessor, continuing its legacy of bulletproof reliability. While the standard CE, S, and LE trims were mass-market commuters, the lineup gained a true enthusiast model in 2005 with the Corolla XRS.

The XRS is the primary driver of collector interest for this generation. It featured the 170 hp 2ZZ-GE engine and 6-speed manual transmission sourced from the Celica GT-S, complete with an 8,200 rpm redline. A sport-tuned suspension and unique Yamaha-developed components transformed the mild-mannered sedan into a genuine rival for the Honda Civic Si of the era. Its rarity and high-strung performance have made it a cult classic among Toyota fans.

Today's market is split. The vast majority of sales are for standard models, which trade for very low prices and serve as cheap, reliable transportation. This is reflected in the average sale price of just $3,605. The high end of the market, however, is exclusively for clean, low-mileage XRS examples, which have seen sale prices climb past $18,000, proving there's real demand for this specific, performance-oriented variant.
