The Triumph Spitfire debuted in 1962, using a shortened chassis from the Herald sedan and a stylish body penned by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti. It was a direct competitor to the Austin-Healey Sprite and MG Midget. The Spitfire evolved through five distinct series, from the original Spitfire 4 (Mk1) to the final Spitfire 1500, with production ending in 1980.
