Maserati Ghibli

The original Maserati Ghibli (Tipo AM115) is a masterpiece of 1960s grand touring design. Styled by a young Giorgetto Giugiaro at Ghia, its long, low silhouette and powerful V8 engine made it a direct rival to the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Miura. Produced from 1967 to 1973, it was offered as both a fastback coupe and a much rarer Spyder, with the ultimate version being the 335 hp, 4.9L Ghibli SS.

Collectors prize the Ghibli for its stunning looks and status as one of the last great front-engined Maseratis before the Citroën era. The extreme rarity of the Spyder, with only 125 built, makes it the holy grail for enthusiasts, often commanding prices several times that of the coupe. Well-documented cars with matching numbers and the desirable 5-speed ZF manual transmission are always in high demand.

The market for the Ghibli nameplate is complex, as it includes three distinct generations: the classic AM115, the 1990s twin-turbo Ghibli II, and the modern sport sedan. While the classic 1967-1973 cars, particularly SS and Spyder models, occupy the top of the market, the vast majority of transactions involve the recent sedan. This creates a wide value spread, but the classic's blue-chip status remains secure.

Prices range from $500 for parts cars to $765,000 for concours-quality classic variants.
