Porsche 930 Turbo

Porsche introduced the 930 Turbo in 1975 to meet homologation requirements for Group 4 racing. Initially powered by a 3.0L flat-six producing 256 hp, it was Germany's fastest production car. Known for its challenging handling and sudden turbo boost, it earned the nickname 'Widowmaker.' In 1978, Porsche upgraded the engine to 3.3L, added an air-to-air intercooler, and redesigned the 'whale tail' spoiler, boosting power to 300 hp and slightly taming its behavior.

The 930 is a certified automotive icon, defined by its wide fenders and massive spoiler that screamed 1980s performance. As the first production 911 Turbo, it established a dynasty that continues today. Collectors seek out specific variants, including the early non-intercooled 3.0L cars for their purity and the final 1989 models, which were the only ones equipped with the desirable G50 5-speed manual transmission. Factory Slantnose or 'Flachbau' models represent the top of the market.

With over 600 recent sales, the 930 market is active and well-established. Prices have climbed significantly over the past decade, placing the model firmly in blue-chip territory. The average sale price hovers around $138,000, but the spread is massive. Low-end project cars can be found for less, while documented, low-mileage, and special-edition cars, like the Slantnose, can approach $2 million. Condition and originality are the primary value drivers.
