The 991 generation marked a major technological shift for the GT3. The 991.1 (2014-2016) introduced a 3.8-liter direct-injection flat-6, electric power steering, and rear-axle steering. Controversially, it was only available with a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, a first for the GT3 line. Early 991.1 cars suffered from engine fires, which led to a factory recall and replacement of all engines with an improved design.
The later 991.2 models (2018-2019) are considered the sweet spot by many collectors. They feature a larger, race-derived 4.0-liter engine that produces 500 hp and revs to 9,000 rpm.
