While Porsche is famous for sports cars, the company's history also includes agricultural tractors. The designs originated with Ferdinand Porsche's pre-war concept for a "Volksschlepper." After WWII, Porsche licensed the designs, and from 1956 to 1963, Mannesmann produced tractors under the Porsche-Diesel name. The lineup used a modular system with air-cooled diesel engines of 1, 2, 3, and 4 cylinders, corresponding to the Junior, Standard, Super, and Master models.
Buying Tips
- Check all sheet metal, including the hood, seat pan, and fenders, for rust or heavy damage. Original tinwork is hard to find.
- Ensure the air-cooled diesel engine starts without excessive effort or smoke. Sourcing specific engine parts can be a challenge.
